Healing with the giant duck....

After a very late night in Hongdae for Halloween, we needed to find something to do on the Saturday so we didn't waste away the day completely...
We decided to to to the Giant Rubber Duck. My coteacher had explained it to me that the Duck was visiting Korea to help the country "heal". I looked it up though, and learned that it was asked to come to Korea as part of a promotion for the controversial Lotte World Tower, which is located right next to Seokchon Lake. This is the temporary home for the 300 kilogram, 54-foot tall duck that was designed by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman.
The "Rubber Duck Project" has traveled to many cities including Belgium, Osaka, Sydney, Sao Paulo, Hong Kong, and Pittsburgh since 2007 in the hopes to "heal wounds" and "relive tension" wherever it goes.
Apparently, Lotte officials are hoping the duck will calm the nerves of Koreans that are worried about the Tower. The contruction of the complex has sparked concern after sinkholes appeared near the site. Seoul City has said that poor contruction of subway line No. 9 was behind the holes. The city has allowed the lower floors of the building to open, but will monitor safety conditions.
After knowing this, it was a little creepy to go to this lake to be honest! ahaha! It seems strange to me that they would purposely draw more people to the area when they are having sink holes and building problems... Oh well, I guess I got out of the area alive...

After we spent some time healing, we went to Itaewon to try to find some Western food for Emily's birthday. We ended up going to JR Southern style BBQ place, and unfortunately it was disappointing this time around. The previous time we had went it was really yummy.
At least I had went and got a delicious cheesecake from Braai Republic for Emily's 23rd birthday. It is an amarula flavored cheesecake and it is the best cheesecake I have ever had. It is ridiculously good!
