Slovakia: the land of amazing food...

I didn't know what to expect from the food in Slovakia, but OH MY GOSH, I was completely ecstatic about the result! Who knew Slovakia had amazing food. One of the great things about getting to have Eve around was that she was a wealth of knowledge. This made it much easier to be adventurous with our food and have it continue on later in other countries on our trip. This first photo on the left is of a garlic soup in a bread bowl- AMAZING.... That night we also tried the knee of pork- AMAZING... I had a brisket type thing on a bed of mashed potatoes- AMAZING... Are you seeing a theme?
I was a little leery of the very traditional dish called, "sheep's cheese", ( bryndzové halušky) but it turned out to be one of my favorites! It was a take off of what we would have as macaroni and cheese.  It was a heavy pasta with a creamy sauce. The best part though was the crispy bacon that they always put on top. Slovakia was good with bacon, unlike the Brits...

Even the little sandwich that Eve's wonderful mother made us was delicious. Hello to gaining weight on this trip! :)
